Planting & Care

Amaryllis Planting Guide

  • Plant amaryllis bulbs in pots indoors from mid to late fall for beautiful blooms in winter.
  • Choose a pot about 15-20cm across (ideally with a drainage hole at the bottom).
  • Using well draining soil, fill the pot half way.
  • Place the bulb in the pot so that the pointed tip faces up. Fill in around the sides of the bulb with soil.
  • Make sure the top third of the bulb (the "neck") sits above the soil.
  • Firm the soil gently around the bulb.
  • Give your bulb a good drink of water after planting - then hold back on watering until you see new shoots.
  • Once growth begins, keep the soil evenly moist - not soggy.
  • Place your amaryllis in a warm, bright part of your home.
