Serano tulips are truly eye-catching, with petals that resemble creamy candles kissed by pink and golden flames climbing their centers. These tulips are Greigii types, known for their compact stature and oversized blooms that open wide in the sun—sometimes reaching over 5 inches across. The marbled, purple-mottled foliage adds ornamental value even before the flowers appear. Ideal for containers, rock gardens, or borders, Serano is a great pick for naturalizing in sunny, well-drained spots.

Tulip Planting & Care

  • Tulips are cold-hardy and thrive outdoors through the winter. For optimal results, plant them anytime from October through mid-December. If your bulbs arrive earlier in the season (like September), store them in a cool, dry, and rodent-proof place until the weather cools enough for planting.
  • You can plant tulip bulbs directly into garden beds or outdoor containers.
  • For gardens with dense or clay-heavy soil, improve drainage by mixing in generous amounts of compost and coarse sand or grit.
  • Choose a location that gets full sun or partial/dappled shade.
  • Plant each bulb 15–20 cm deep, ensuring the pointed tip is facing upwards.
  • In containers, space bulbs about 10 cm apart for a full, lush look. In garden beds, you can space them slightly farther apart if desired.
