Lady of Shalott (Ausnyson) is a bare root English shrub rose bred by David Austin that produces large, chalice-shaped blooms in rich orange, with salmon-pink outer petals and contrasting golden-yellow undersides. A repeat bloomer with a warm Tea fragrance and hints of spiced apple and cloves, this variety quickly forms a bushy, slightly arching shrub with attractive bronze-tinted young foliage. Hardy from zones 5 to 11, Lady of Shalott brings vibrant colour and reliable flowering to Canadian gardens. Perfect for borders, beds, rose hedges, containers, and cottage gardens, this distinctive variety adds warmth, fragrance, and season-long interest to the landscape.

Rose Planting & Care

(David Austin Rose - Lady of Shallott)

  • Rehydrate your rose. Unpack the rose quickly after receiving, trim 1/2" off the root tips and canes to keep them fresh.
  • Soak the roots up to the base of the cane for 2 hours - overnight.
  • Choose a site with a minimum of 4 hours of sun per day and dig a hole twice as wide as the root system and as deep as the roots (typically 16" wide x 16" deep)
  • Loosen the soil at the bottom the hole for better root growth then create a small mound in the base of the hole and drape the roots around it.
  • position the bud union (where shoots emerge) at ground level and backfill with the original soil. Lightly firm the soil around the plant.
  • Give the rose a good initial watering after plant and maintain regular watering. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
