David Austin Rose Vanessa Bell (Auseasel) is a bare root English shrub rose bred by David Austin that produces medium sized, pale yellow blooms with a medium to strong tea fragrance and repeat flowering through the summer. This easy to grow, sun loving rose reaches around 110 cm (44") tall and is suitable for zones 5 to 11, making it a reliable choice for Canadian gardens. Perfect for pots, borders, and cut flowers, Vanessa Bell comes back every year with fragrant blooms that also attract pollinators, especially when given full sun or partial sun and winter protection in colder areas.

Planting & Care

Caring for your roses

  • Rehydrate your rose. Unpack the rose quickly after receiving, trim 1/2" off the root tips and canes to keep them fresh.
  • Soak the roots up to the base of the cane for 2 hours - overnight.
  • Choose a site with a minimum of 4 hours of sun per day and dig a hole twice as wide as the root system and as deep as the roots (typically 16" wide x 16" deep)
  • Loosen the soil at the bottom the hole for better root growth then create a small mound in the base of the hole and drape the roots around it.
  • position the bud union (where shoots emerge) at ground level and backfill with the original soil. Lightly firm the soil around the plant.
  • Give the rose a good initial watering after plant and maintain regular watering. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
