German White Hardneck Garlic boasts a mellow heat, making it ideal for roasting or adding depth to your favourite recipes. It stores exceptionally well and is a reliable performer in the kitchen and garden alike. Like other hardneck types, its cloves are big and fewer in number than softnecks, with a thin outer layer that peels effortlessly. A great companion plant, garlic has long been thought to offer protective benefits in the garden by repelling insects and deterring disease.

Planting & Care

Garlic Planting Guide

  • Plant cloves from September to the end of November
  • Garlic is not suited for growing in containers. Select an area to plant with rich, well draining soil and full sun exposure.
  • Separate the cloves and plant each one 10-15cm apart with the pointed end facing up. Plant the cloves 5cm deep.
  • Water as needed, and keep the area well weeded.
  • When the top leaves begin to dry out (between June and August), you can gently harvest. Leave bulbs out to dry (cure) for at least a week.
