Known for its cheerful, star-shaped flowers, Chionodoxa forbesii bursts into bloom as winter fades, often pushing through snow to signal the changing season. These little charmers are perfect for mass planting in rock gardens, beneath deciduous trees, or near early-flowering shrubs. Once planted, they require virtually no upkeep and will steadily multiply over the years. Though petite in size, they still make a sweet addition to springtime bouquets.

Fall Bulb Planting Guide

  • Flower bulbs are a low-maintenance and rewarding way to add colour to your garden.
  • Fall-planted bulbs thrive when exposed to cool soil temperatures. They can be planted anytime from late September into January.
  • These bulbs lie dormant through winter and burst into bloom in the spring and early summer.
  • When you receive your bulbs, be sure to read the planting instructions included with each variety. Planting depth can vary depending on the size and type of the bulb, as well as how tall the mature plant will be.
  • As a general guideline, bulbs should be placed with the pointed end facing up and covered with about 15 cm (6 inches) of soil.
