Eucomis bicolor, commonly called the Pineapple Lily, is a tropical perennial that delights with its striking, pineapple-shaped flower spikes and lush green foliage. Blooming from summer into fall, its unique, starry flowers rise above the foliage, creating a bold and exotic focal point in sunny gardens or containers.

Native to South America, Eucomis thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. In zones 8–10, it can be planted directly in the garden, where it can remain undisturbed for years. In cooler regions, container cultivation is recommended, with annual repotting into fresh soil for best results. Perfect for garden beds, borders, or patios, Eucomis bicolor also makes a lovely, long-lasting cut flower.

Eucomis Planting & Care

(Eucomis Bicolor)

  • Choose a location with good sun exposure (generally 6-8 hours of sun per day in the summer).
  • Plant after the last spring frost when soil has warmed up and the roots will thrive.
  • Loosen soil and dig a hole about twice as deep a the plant. 
  • Cover the plant with soil and water well to ensure it gets a good start.
  • Continue to water as needed keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged.
