Trillium erectum is a beautiful native woodland perennial prized for its deep maroon, nodding blooms and distinctive three-leaf whorls. Blooming in spring, each flower rises 30–40 cm above rich green foliage, creating a dramatic focal point in shaded gardens. This hardy, low-maintenance perennial thrives in moist, well-drained soil with partial to full shade and naturalizes over time into charming clumps. Perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders, forested landscapes, and native plantings, Trillium erectum adds early-season color, texture, and ecological value for pollinators and wildlife.

Spring Planting Guide

  • Choose a location with good sun exposure (generally 6-8 hours of sun per day in the summer).
  • Plant after the last spring frost when soil has warmed up and the roots will thrive.
  • Loosen soil and dig a hole about twice as deep a the plant. 
  • Cover the plant with soil and water well to ensure it gets a good start.
  • Continue to water as needed keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged.
