A dramatic, velvety dark-red (almost black center) informal decorative dahlia with large 4–6″ blooms that drip deep burgundy. Growing to about 90 cm tall, its rich, moody petals make a bold statement in the garden or vase. With 80–100 days to maturity and long, sturdy stems, ‘Rip City’ is a perfect cut-flower variety for dramatic border colour, floral arrangements or evening garden impact. Sold as a tuber clump.

Dahlia Planting & Care

  • Choose a sunny location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily for strong growth and abundant blooms.
  • Plant dahlia tubers after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed, as cold, wet soil can cause tubers to rot.
  • Loosen the soil well and dig a hole about 6 inches deep. Place the tuber horizontally with the eye facing up.
  • Cover with soil and water lightly at planting. Avoid heavy watering until new growth appears.
  • Once shoots emerge, water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.
