Astrantia Star of Beauty is an elegant shade-loving perennial prized for its finely detailed, pincushion-style blooms edged with a decorative ruffled neckline. Rich burgundy tones softened with white highlights create striking contrast in woodland gardens, borders, and cottage-style plantings. Thriving in partial shade to full shade, this Astrantia adapts easily to most garden soils and forms attractive, long-lived clumps. A florist favourite, its excellent cut and dried flowers boast an impressive 10–14 day vase life. Regular deadheading encourages a longer flowering season.

Astrantia Planting & Care

(Astrantia Star of Beauty)

  • Choose a location with good sun exposure (generally 6-8 hours of sun per day in the summer).
  • Plant after the last spring frost when soil has warmed up and the roots will thrive.
  • Loosen soil and dig a hole about twice as deep a the plant. 
  • Cover the plant with soil and water well to ensure it gets a good start.
  • Continue to water as needed keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged.
