Silas Marner (Ausraveloe) is a bare root English shrub rose bred by David Austin that produces medium-sized, gently cupped blooms in soft mid pink, with pale petal reverses and relaxed, almost ruffled petals surrounding an attractive button eye. A repeat bloomer with a medium-strong Old Rose fragrance, its scent combines fruity notes of lemon, green banana, and apricot. This very healthy variety forms a medium-sized shrub with glossy dark green foliage and a wide, arching growth habit. Hardy from zones 5 to 11, Silas Marner is well suited to borders, cutting gardens, and partial shade, bringing graceful blooms, rich fragrance, and an easygoing charm to the landscape.

Rose Planting & Care

(David Austin Rose - Silas Marner)

  • Rehydrate your rose. Unpack the rose quickly after receiving, trim 1/2" off the root tips and canes to keep them fresh.
  • Soak the roots up to the base of the cane for 2 hours - overnight.
  • Choose a site with a minimum of 4 hours of sun per day and dig a hole twice as wide as the root system and as deep as the roots (typically 16" wide x 16" deep)
  • Loosen the soil at the bottom the hole for better root growth then create a small mound in the base of the hole and drape the roots around it.
  • position the bud union (where shoots emerge) at ground level and backfill with the original soil. Lightly firm the soil around the plant.
  • Give the rose a good initial watering after plant and maintain regular watering. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
